Social Marketing

We use social marketing to create circumstances where people are inspired and enabled to change their lives for the better.

Social marketing is an approach that’s been used successfully by governments and civil society for decades to influence behaviours for good.  When applied correctly, its a robust, evidence-based framework within which to plan, implement and evaluate social change programs.

Traditionally social marketing has been used to change individual behaviours in policy areas such as public health, road safety and environmental protection. Think Slip-Slop-Slap, Wipe Off 5, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and so on.

But social marketing is far more than just advertising or public education.  The most effective social marketing programs include upstream strategies that address structural and environmental determinants of behaviour such as social norms, policy and regulation.

Marketing for Change is actively engaged in global social marketing networks and plays an active role developing social marketing practice in Australia and overseas.

Our Managing Director, Luke van der Beeke is a former Director of the National Social Marketing Centre (UK) and a Founding Director of The NSMC CIC where he still works as an associate.  He sits on the Board of the Australian Social Marketing Association and served as Practitioner Co-Chair for the World Social Marketing Conference in Sydney 2015 and Washington 2017.  He was a member of the VicHealth Expert Panel on Social Marketing and currently sits on Healthway’s Health Advisory Committee.

Many of our associates are also recognised leaders in the field.
